The first mention of Zavalino appears in the "Pistcovye books" from 1637-1643, where it was recorded under Lavrenty Alekseevich Kologrivov. It is also known that in 1635, a church dedicated to Saint Nicholas was built here. In 1713, a new church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was erected on the site of the dilapidated church, with chapels dedicated to Saint Nicholas and the martyrs Flora and Lavra. The Kazan church was consecrated in 1715. Exactly 100 years later, with funds from the estate owner Elizabeth Fyodorovna Akifova, née Griboedova, a stone church with a bell tower was built in the village of Zavalino, slightly away from the old wooden church. The church had three altars: the main one in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, in the warm refectory, in the name of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, and Saint Righteous Elizabeth. The church was erected in honor of Russia's victory over Napoleon in the Patriotic War of 1812. Five boulders brought from Borodino Field, according to Elizabeth Fyodorovna's idea, were meant to emphasize the connection of the church with the feats of Russian warriors, including her two sons who returned from the war. Four stones have survived to this day and lie in front of the church in a flowerbed.

This brick church in the style of mature classicism has been well preserved to this day. The church consists of a single-domed square with side porticos, a semicircular apse, a small refectory, and a three-tiered bell tower. The central entrance is adorned with a classical triangular pediment on four massive stone columns. An onion dome rises above a spherical dome, set on a large light drum. The bell tower is designed as a "rotunda on a square base," with the first tier of the belfry decorated with rustication. The third tier of the belfry is adorned with half-columns. The walls are plastered and painted in a gentle white-yellow color, while the roof and domes are covered with galvanized iron. The interior decoration is simple and concise, and the ancient paintings have not survived.

After the Bolsheviks came to power, the church in Zavalino continued to operate but was closed after the Feast of the Holy Trinity in 1930. Eyewitnesses reported that the day before the closure, representatives of the new authorities arrived from Kolchugino, stayed overnight with the priest, and in the morning demanded the keys to the church. Bursting into the church, they caused a riot: valuable items were confiscated, and icons were thrown into the river. Since then, services ceased, and the priest left Zavalino in search of a new church. The church building was turned into a village club, and later it was used as a grain storage facility by the local collective farm.

The church reopened for services on Epiphany in 1991, after which restoration began. A lot of effort was put in by the church warden Valentina Ivanovna Belova. Benefactors from neighboring Kolchugino helped. Thanks to enthusiasts, parishioners, and other concerned individuals, the church was gradually restored. On January 15, 2006, the first archpastoral service was held under the leadership of Archbishop Evlogy of Vladimir and Suzdal. Currently, the church in Zavalino continues to be restored thanks to the parish led by the rector of the Holy Kazan Church, Father Onufriy, Kovalyov Oleg Iosifovich.
