The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church is one of the largest churches in the Samara region, built in an eclectic style based on the designs of architect Konstantin Ton. This is the second church in the history of the village; the first was consecrated in 1861 but was essentially just a slightly modified old prayer house, which by the end of the 19th century could no longer accommodate all the residents of the growing village. The new church was built between 1896 and 1904 under the guidance of diocesan architect Tadeusz Hilinski, who used his design for the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, created between 1891 and 1894 in Melekess. In 1906, after the completion of the frescoes and the installation of the iconostasis, the only altar was consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The church in Verkhne Sancheleevo operated until 1922, after which it was closed and used for economic purposes. Until 1991, it served as a warehouse for the local collective farm, and by the time the church was returned to the Samara diocese, the building was in poor condition; in particular, one of the five domes had been lost due to lightning. However, the Kazan Church avoided the fate of many other churches in the Stavropol district that were lost during the Soviet years. Thanks to the emergence of benefactors, assistance from Tolyatti companies, and the efforts of the first rector, Father Nikolai Guryanov, by the early 2000s, it was possible to fully restore the historical appearance of the church and revive active parish life. Today, the Kazan Church is considered a significant historical monument of the Stavropol district. Notably, another surviving church of the same scale, the Church of Cosmas and Damian in the village of Musorka, built in 1905, is almost identical to the church in Verkhne Sancheleevo.
