Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Uvarov

Фото 1
In the wealthy fishing village of Uvarov, there once stood a beautiful church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, known for its unique bells, the sound of which could be heard for miles on clear days. However, in the early 1930s, the church was destroyed. In the late 20th century, an initiative group of Orthodox Christians emerged in Uvarov advocating for the construction of a new church in the village.

The construction was carried out under the Patriarchal program "Temples of the Russian Hinterland" with the support of the International Fund for the Unity of Orthodox Peoples and charitable assistance from OAO "Gazprom" and its subsidiary "Astrakhangazprom." The work was completed by the architectural and construction restoration firm "GEORGIA" in 2002. The church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was consecrated on November 4, 2002, on the day celebrated by Orthodox Christians for the miraculous icon.
