Sakmara, the district center of the Orenburg region, is an ancient village with a three-century history. In the center of the village, opposite the district administration building, stands the church. Although the exact date of its foundation is unknown, it is known that construction was initiated by a wealthy family who owned a nearby mill. In 1760, a fire destroyed the wooden church, and the Cossacks built a new one from stone. The Kazan church in Sakmara was consecrated in July 1828. The archive of the Orenburg spiritual consistory contains records from 1901 stating: "The Kazan Mother of God Uniate Church was built through the efforts and diligence of the residents of the stanitsa at their own expense. The church is made of stone, including the floor, with a stone bell tower and a wooden fence on a stone foundation. There are three altars."

During the years of godlessness, the church lost its domes. During the period of persecution, the church was closed, the vaults were destroyed, and priest Mikhail Gorbunov was shot. Later, the building was used as a warehouse and then as a cinema.

In 1992, the church was returned to the believers, and after a quick reconstruction in the spring of 1993, services, rituals, and Sacraments, including the Divine Liturgy, began to be held there. However, on November 21, 1998, a fire occurred, destroying everything except the stone walls. We often wondered why the fire happened on the feast of Archangel Michael, the fearsome Archistrategos of God with a fiery sword. Perhaps it was necessary to destroy everything that did not belong to the church. At that time, Metropolitan Leonid of Orenburg and Buzuluk said: "It was not the church that burned, but the place that was desecrated." The church has now been restored, and services are held there. The church is open all day.
