The first wooden church in Pokrovka was built with the funds of parishioners in 1859, but it was later dismantled due to its dilapidation. In 1898, a new wooden church with a similar bell tower was constructed. This masterpiece of Orthodox wooden architecture became the main attraction of the village, surrounded by a brick fence with iron grilles. On September 28, 1899, Bishop Guriy of Samara and Stavropol consecrated the altar in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

Old-timers recall that before the revolution, Pokrovka was divided into three parts: Orthodox, Molokan, and Mormon. The Molokans had their own cemetery and prayer house. The Kazan Church was located on the border between the Orthodox and Molokan parts.

In June 1936, the Borsky District Executive Committee informed the Kuibyshev Regional Executive Committee that the church had been repurposed for grain storage, and its property, according to the decision of a general assembly of citizens, was transferred for safekeeping to the Pokrovsky Village Council. On September 18, 1936, the presidium of the Borsky District Executive Committee rejected the believers' request for the return of the church.

In December 1951, the temple was in good condition. Now it is abandoned, and the once majestic two-light, five-domed church with a four-tiered tent bell tower is in a ruined state.
