The first settlers arrived in Pestovo in 1781. Since then, they dreamed of building their own church. However, it was only in April 2000 that a decision was made at a general meeting of the village residents to build a church in Pestovo in the name of the Kazan Mother of God with funds from the parishioners.

The construction of the church received the blessing of His Grace Nikolai, the Metropolitan of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. The village council administration allocated a plot for construction. On May 27, 2000, the archpriest of the Uren district, Father Valery Yushkov, consecrated the site for the church. An old store building, provided by the district consumer society, was transferred for construction. On July 17, 2000, Father Valery laid the first stone. All the villagers actively participated in the construction. On October 24, 2001, with the blessing of Bishop Evgeny of Tambov, Father Valery installed the crosses. By the fall of 2002, the church was fully ready for services.
