Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church in Muranka

Фото 1
The first church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Muranka was built and consecrated in 1862. It was a wooden, warm temple, designed in the eclectic style of 'model projects'. In the refectory, there was an altar dedicated to the Three Holy Hierarchs and the Moscow Miracle Workers Peter, Alexius, and Jonah. In 1938, the church was closed along with most other churches in the territory of the modern Shigon district, and its building was repurposed as a grain collection point. Almost all the icons were taken by parishioners, and now they adorn the iconostases of churches in Malyachkin, Surinsk, and Shigony, where the locally venerated church icon of the Kazan Mother of God is located. In the 1960s, the Kazan church in Muranka, by that time significantly altered, was dismantled for building materials. In 2005, the building of the former boiler house was adapted for conducting services.

The construction of a new stone church began in 2017, and in June 2019, the domes were installed. The new church is being built next to the existing one.
