After the brothers Nikifor and Ivan Kosterёv built a stone church in the village of Vlasovskoye, now Vlasovo in the Shatura district of the Moscow region, it was decided to transfer the wooden building of its predecessor to the recently opened neighboring Markovo parish. Together with the iconostasis and numerous icons, the church was dismantled log by log and transported to the right bank of the Klyazma. These were remote places, surrounded by the marshy Markovo swamps. Local residents had long needed their own church, as in spring, during the flood season, the area would be flooded for a whole month, and Markovo along with neighboring villages would be cut off from the nearest parish church. After the Vlasovo church was installed in Markovo, it was consecrated in honor of the highly revered Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The old church stood in Markovo for another forty years, until the early 20th century, after which it was replaced by a stone brick church in 1902.
