In the mid-16th century, the village of Plesets was a royal possession. In 1561, Tsar Ivan the Terrible transferred it to the Nizhny Novgorod Pechersky Ascension Monastery. Documents confirm that Plesets remained the property of the monastery until 1764.

Descriptive books of the Vladimir district from 1621 mention a wooden church with an altar in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, where the priest was Ilya. In the mid-17th century, the parish of the Nicholas church included about 140 households, of which 130 were peasant households.

Later, in the second half of the 17th century, another wooden church was built in the village in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. It had one dome, a shingle roof, and walls insulated with moss. The old Nicholas church fell into disrepair, and in 1698, a new wooden church with the same name was built in its place. The old church continued to deteriorate.

To this day, a description of the churches compiled by priest Ermolaev Evdokimov in 1702 has survived. Both churches had one dome and were covered with shingles. The iconostasis and royal doors were decorated with paints and gold, and among the church utensils, there were gilded items. The description mentions the old Nicholas church, where services were no longer held.

During the Soviet era, the Kazan church, like many others, suffered desecration. The last priest was Evlampiy Liberovsky, who arrived in Plesets in 1893. His merits were recognized with the Order of St. Anna of the 3rd degree. In 1919, Metropolitan Sergey conveyed a blessing from Patriarch Tikhon. However, the Bolsheviks arrested Liberovsky, and he died in prison in 1936.

The Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was closed in 1940, and its premises were used as a warehouse. In the 1980s, the church suffered from a fire, and five domes burned down. The painting of the chapel was lost, but the paintings of the cold church were preserved. The parish cemetery changed: old gravestones were replaced with modern monuments, and it significantly expanded.

In the 1990s, the restoration of the church began. A new roof was erected, the territory was landscaped, electricity was installed, and new icons appeared. The church is gradually regaining its splendor, welcoming travelers to Kovrov from the direction of Kameshkovo. These are the newly erected domes of the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Malyshево, formerly Plesets, on the Uvod River.
