On the western border of the newly formed Ardatov Diocese of the Mordovian Metropolis, in the village of Makolovo in the Chamzinsky district, there is an archbishop's courtyard of the church dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

The parish in Makolovo was founded in the 18th century, and the first wooden Nikolskaya church appeared around 1750. It existed until the first half of the 19th century. In 1824, peasants from Makolovo purchased a log from the old wooden John the Theologian church in Saransk and restored it with some modifications. The church was consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia. In 1874, an altar with two thrones was built: one in honor of the Great Martyr Paraskeva, the other, of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. However, on the night of March 17, 1904, the church burned down. The parishioners, undeterred, organized a church construction committee and soon consecrated a temporary prayer house. In June, the construction of a new stone church began, aided by the efforts of the rector Vladimir Ivanovich Nikolaev and a divine miracle.

Father Vladimir organized the production of bricks for the construction. 1.5 km from the church was a clay quarry. According to legend, after a lightning strike, a spring burst forth at this site, where the icon of the Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday was found. The icon was moved to the prayer house, but soon it returned to the spring. In memory of this miracle, a procession was established.

After 3-4 years, the construction of the church was completed. In 1910, the church was consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. In 1914, the iconostasis was painted by the sisters of the Chufarovsky Monastery. The church also had altars in honor of St. Nicholas and the Great Martyr Paraskeva.

In the 1920s, there were attempts to close the church, but the parishioners defended it. In the early 1930s, the church was still closed, but its architecture and iconostasis were preserved. In 1941, the church was returned to the parish. In 1996, it was transferred to the Chufarovsky Monastery and became a courtyard.

In 2011, the church was handed over to the Ardatov Diocese, and an archbishop's courtyard was established in it. A former school building is being converted into a shelter for the elderly. Repairs and renovations are underway to improve living conditions.

The church's relics include an ark with the relics of saints, the icon of the Mother of God "Deliverer", the icon of the Great Martyr Paraskeva, and a crucifix from 1914. Nearby, there are three holy springs. At one of them, consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, a baptismal font was built. Every year, water blessing services and processions are held at the spring.

The spring in honor of the Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday is renowned for miracles. In 1949, the image of the Mother of God was revealed at the spring. Authorities attempted to close the spring, but it remained untouched and is still venerated. In honor of St. Nicholas, another spring known for its healing water is located 7 km from the church.
