A description of the church from 1910 has survived from the insurance report of the churches of the Astrakhan diocese: it was wooden, with a brick base, clad in planks and painted with oil paint. The roof was made of galvanized iron. The length of the church with the bell tower was 7 fathoms 1 arshin, and the maximum width was 3 fathoms 34 arshins. The height to the cornice reached 2 fathoms. The church had one large and one small dome located above the altar. The building had 7 medium windows and one outer door, clad in iron, as well as one glass door. The iconostasis was 3 fathoms 34 arshins wide and 3 arshins 10 vershoks high. The church was valued at 2500 rubles. There were no stoves in it, and the bell tower had one tier and a height to the cornice of 2 fathoms 1 arshin. In this form, the church has survived to this day, except for a small extension from the 1950s and the altered dome of the central cupola. Due to its small size and lack of heating, the Kazan church was designated as a chapel and was annexed to the Three Saints Church in the village of Bolshaya Magai.

On January 22, 2013, during the day, the Kazan church in the village of Ilyinka, Volodarsky District of the Astrakhan Region, was destroyed by fire. Built in 1909, it had not been closed during the Soviet years and was known for its venerated image of the Mother of God. The building was not under protection, but in the 2000s it was reconstructed: a brick basement was added, a narthex with a bell tower was built, and the walls were re-clad. The cause of the fire was a malfunction in the electrical wiring. In the summer, construction of a new church began on the site of the ruins, and on October 16, 2015, a new church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was consecrated, built on the site of the old church lost in the fire.
