The Kazan Church in the village of Former Akakiev Desert is a stone parish building. It has two altars: the main, cold one is dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and the warm side altar is dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church was built in 1647 by Elder Akaki. Before the parish was established, there was a monastery founded by the same elder in the same year. In 1764, the monastery was closed and transformed into a parish church.

The church was joined by the following settlements from the neighboring village of Voskresenskoye on Sotma: the villages of Ugresha, Koromyslovo, Iltsino, Tsybilino, and three peasant households in Voskresenskoye on Sotma itself. The land area of the church is 39 desyatins and 108 square fathoms. The church owns four houses: for the priest, the psalmist, the church watchman, and for the church parish school. The church capital amounts to 4800 rubles. There are 278 male and 299 female parishioners, including: in the village of Ugresha, 47 men and 50 women, one verst from the church; in Tsybilino, 78 men and 87 women, two versts away; in Iltsino, 36 men and 33 women, also two versts away; in Koromyslovo, 93 men and 101 women, five versts away. In the village of Voskresenskoye on Sotma, there are 24 men and 28 women, half a verst from the church. In the village of Former Akakiev Desert, there are no peasants; only clergy live here. The village is located on a hill, near the Sotma River.

The village has a church parish school, funded by 1000 rubles donated by the former local priest Mikhail Afanasevich Aristov, and 20 rubles received from the shopshinsky volost administration. According to the staff schedule, the priest and the psalmist are entitled to a salary of 393 rubles. The parish capital amounts to 5479 rubles.
