The main church of the city rises on the Railway Square, where a sports stadium used to be. This is the central temple of the Transbaikal Diocese, distinguished by its beautiful architecture. The building is designed in the Vladimir-Suzdal style, painted in sky blue with white elements and adorned with gilded domes.

This new cross-domed church has become not only a significant landmark but also one of the largest cathedrals in Siberia and the Far East. The height of the building, including the crosses, reaches about 47 meters. The main dome weighs over 25 tons. The bell tower houses 13 bells, the largest of which weighs about 10 tons and is the heaviest in the region.

The church has a classic structure with five domes and an adjoining tent-shaped bell tower. The massive walls are decorated with ornamental stripes and arcade belts that frame the drums of the domes and the apse. A relief belt emphasizes the elegant elongated windows, while the walls are adorned with decorative kiliform arches.

The main altar of the church is dedicated to the Mother of God, the left one to the canonized members of the last royal family, and the right one to Saint Alexander Nevsky. Beneath the main altar is the baptismal chapel, consecrated in honor of Prince Vladimir. The interior of the cathedral is impressive: in the center of the main altar is the bishop's pulpit, and the choir is located on the balcony of the western wall. To the right of the Alexander Nevsky altar stands a reliquary with the relics of Saint Varlaam of Chikoy. Above hangs a large chandelier with a cross, and in the side altars, heraldic eagles.

During construction, a particle of the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh was laid in the foundation of the cathedral.

The central iconostasis makes a strong impression. It is made according to the classical canon with three gates and icons arranged by rank. On either side of the main one are the iconostases of the side altars, repeating its shape.

The icons of the church also deserve attention. On the analogs are images of Nicholas the Wonderworker, Sergius of Radonezh, and the Smolensk Mother of God. In separate kiots made of walnut wood, one can see icons depicting the royal family and Prince Vladimir with Boris and Gleb.

The main entrance to the church is located on Butina Street, the northern one on Amur Street, and the southern one from the side of the station.
