In the autumn of 1999, the residents of the village of Novostroyka, now known as the city of Peresvet, appealed to the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra with a request to open a Podvorye in their territory. On October 26, 1999, on the day of the celebration of the Iver Icon of the Mother of God, preliminary approval was received. Activists began collecting signatures for an appeal to Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, asking for a blessing to open the Podvorye and build a church in honor of the Iver Icon. On March 23, 2000, by the decree of Patriarch Alexy II, the Peresvet Podvorye of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra was approved, and a blessing was given for the construction of the church.

In May 2000, the village of Novostroyka received city status and a new name, Peresvet, in honor of Saint Alexander Peresvet. This event coincided with the approval of the Podvorye of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra. Spring 2000 marked the beginning of a new life for the village. The celebrations dedicated to the birth of the city of Peresvet involved the brotherhood of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and the monastery choir. Archimandrite Theophylact, now Bishop of Dmitrov, presented the icon of the Mother of God “The Sign” as a sign of blessing. The first Divine Liturgy took place on December 10, on the feast day of this icon, seven months after the founding of the city.

The abbot Andronik Trubachyov was appointed responsible for the opening of the Podvorye. From November 4, 2000, Father Konstantin Kharitonov became the rector. On a Sunday, when winter had already taken hold, the first water blessing service was held in the building of the Harmony School of Arts. The room was overcrowded, with people even standing in the former pool basin. At 3:00 PM, the service began, attended by city leaders, deputies, representatives of OMON, and business circles. After the service, a concert took place featuring the missionary choir and guslar Yegor Strelnikov.

The first Divine Liturgy at the Podvorye was held on December 10, 2000. The main church of the Podvorye was consecrated in honor of the Iver Icon of the Mother of God, with an altar in honor of the Kazan Icon. A memorial church in honor of Saint Hieromartyr Hermogenes was built on the territory of the Sergiev Posad OMON, and on the territory of the 2nd battalion of military unit No. 3422, a church in honor of Saint Martyr John the Warrior. A fourth church in honor of Saint Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon is being built on the territory of the MCH No. 94 hospital. Its foundation was consecrated on August 9, 2010. The water blessing service on November 26, 2000, and the first Divine Liturgy on December 10 marked the beginning of a new Orthodox history for the city of Peresvet. With the acquisition of a new name, the city symbolically entered a new life with God.
