The village of Voznesenye, located on the right bank of the Vetluga River, is one of the oldest settlements in the Vetluzhsky district. By the early 18th century, it had the status of a village, and its name was derived from the church built here.

The Voznesensky church, wooden and standing on a stone foundation, with a wooden bell tower, was built in 1893 through the efforts of the parishioners. Next to it is the Preobrazhensky temple, also wooden and on a stone foundation, erected in 1759. Both churches are surrounded by a single wooden fence. The cemetery, located a hundred fathoms from the church, is also enclosed by a wooden fence. The Voznesensky church has three altars: in honor of the Ascension of the Lord, the Protection of the Mother of God, and Saint Great Martyr Panteleimon. The Preobrazhensky temple also has three altars dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, Venerable Macarius of Unzha, and the holy apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas.

Within the churchyard lies the grave of Elder Eustathius, whom the locals venerate as a saint, holding liturgies at his grave. There are no historical records about the life of Elder Eustathius at the church, and his veneration is based on folk traditions.

According to other sources, the wooden church on a stone foundation with a wooden bell tower was built in 1768. It is likely that a new wooden church in honor of the Ascension of the Lord was erected in its place in 1893. Both churches were lost in the 1950s, and a school was built in their place.

A few years ago, the revival of the shrine in the village of Voznesenye began. A local parish was organized in an empty house, and the overgrown grave of Elder Eustathius was tidied up. The site of the lost church in honor of the Ascension of the Lord was fenced off, and three crosses were erected corresponding to the number of altars.

On June 10, 2016, a chapel was opened at the site of the former Voznesensky church, built with funds from local residents.
