The Precursor Church in the village of Romanovo was wooden, with a similar bell tower, and was built in 1903 thanks to the efforts of Synodal missionary, Archpriest Xenophon Kryuchkov, who found the funds for its construction. The fence around the church was wooden but had stone pillars. The cemetery was located 30 fathoms from the church and was also enclosed by a wooden fence. The temple had one altar and was dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. It was situated 190 versts from Kostroma and 90 versts from Makaryevo. The nearest churches, the Nativity of the Mother of God in the village of Klyuchi and the Kazan Church in the village of Mamontova, were 9 versts away. The church building was dismantled in the 1960s.
