Church of John the Baptist in Lysyye Gory

Фото 1
The main attraction of Lysyye Gory is the abandoned church in the former Stara Bakhmetyevka, built and consecrated in 1797 through the efforts of landowner Nikolai Ivanovich Bakhmetev. This church, one of the oldest in the region, was constructed of stone and had a bell tower. It housed the main altar in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist and an altar dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The village of Grafshchina was part of the church's parish. The priest lived in a public house, while the psalmist resided in a church-public building.

During the Soviet era, the church was closed, first housing the MTS office and later a grain storage facility for the collective farm 'Rodina.' Today, the church, having lost its bell tower and all interior furnishings, stands empty and is gradually deteriorating. There is no talk of its restoration, especially considering the construction of a new church in the settlement.
