The stone church in the cemetery, dedicated to John the Merciful, was built in the 1830s thanks to the efforts of benefactors and the care of a respected priest, whose memory lives on to this day. The building featured beautiful architecture and worthy interior decoration.

Previously, there was a wooden church at the new cemetery, located one and a half versts from the city. Over time, it fell into disrepair. This church was gifted by Anna Gavrilovna Normatskaya, the owner of the village of Chufarovo, as the residents of Sergach did not have the means to construct a cemetery church.
