The Church of John the Merciful in Myachin is an ancient Novgorod temple located on the Sofia side beyond the outer city, next to the Church of the Assurance of Thomas. The temple has one dome and one apse, with a square plan. It is smaller than the neighboring building and has squat proportions. On the west side, there is an elegant two-tiered bell tower. Previously, a chamber with a single supporting pillar adjoined the church on the north side.

The modern building of the church was erected in 1422 on the site of a wooden gate church built in 1193. In the 17th century, the church underwent reconstruction, altering the upper parts of the building. After the monastery was abolished in 1752, it became a parish church. In 1848, when the city was redesigned, the church was planned to be dismantled, but instead, it was restored and slightly modified.

The church suffered greatly during the Great Patriotic War, and restoration work was carried out in 1962-1963. The monument was returned to its original appearance, preserving ancient details from the 15th century and traces of changes from the 18th and 19th centuries. No interior restoration work has been conducted, and the church is currently closed.
