The Church of John the Theologian was reportedly built in 1744, although some sources suggest it was constructed in the mid to late 18th century. The bell tower, designed in the late Empire style with a spire, was erected in the 1830s-1840s. The church was two-storied and had two altars. Located on the outskirts of the city, the Church of John the Theologian was renowned for its early 17th-century iconography and the ancient artifacts it housed. In 1906, restorer artist Chirikov, under the supervision of the Imperial Moscow Archaeological Society, restored about a hundred ancient icons, including the highly venerated icon of Archangel Michael, created by the iconographer Grigory Ageev. The church also contained icons of God the Almighty, John the Theologian, the Mother of God, the Holy Trinity, the Resurrection of Christ, and others, some of which date back to the early 17th century.

In 1781, the parish had 19 households. By 1892, the number of parishioners reached 171. On February 24, 1930, a decision was made to close the church. In the early 1990s, the building of the Church of John the Theologian housed a workshop for furniture repair and ritual services. Currently, the church building is in a semi-ruined state, with the bell tower's top and dome lost.
