To the left of the M-8 highway, on a hill, stands the Church of John the Theologian in the village of Podlesnovo. The forest after which the village is named has long disappeared, and you will not find it. The single-domed church with elegant proportions was built in 1795 with funds from local landowners, the Oshanin family. In the mid-19th century, a northwest chapel was added in honor of the Kazan Mother of God. The church's decor attracts attention: under the round windows of the second tier, topped with small gentle pediments, there are reliefs of naive form. They resemble something between a Maltese cross and an order ribbon. The bell tower of the church is also interesting. Above two square tiers with arched openings rises a light octagon, each face of which is pierced with arches, giving special expressiveness to the upper tier.

The church was closed in the 1930s and has not been in operation since. Some frescoes have partially survived in the church.
