The earliest mention of the wooden church of St. George in the village is found in the patriarchal tax books of 1628. According to the scribal books of 1653, there were already two churches in Olikovo: the Church of John the Theologian with a chapel of St. Anna and the church of the Great Martyr Paraskeva, known as Friday, while the Church of St. George was in a dilapidated state and not used for services. One priest served in both churches. Documents from the 1790s show that by this time only one wooden church in the name of St. George remained in the village.

The modern Church of John the Theologian with a chapel of St. George was built on the site of the old wooden church approximately in 1827-1828. Its construction was initiated by the estate owner in Olikovo, Count Mikhail Nikolaevich Musin-Pushkin, who was a prominent figure in the field of domestic education during the Nicholas era. From 1829 to 1845, he served as the curator of the Kazan educational district, and from 1845 to 1856, of the St. Petersburg educational district. Additionally, he headed the capital's censorship committee. At the beginning of Alexander II's reign, the count retired with the rank of secret advisor. The Church of John the Theologian in Olikovo was closed in the late 1930s. By the late 1980s, its building was abandoned and not used. In the early 1990s, the church was returned to the believers.
