In the mid-19th century, Martin Vasily Ivanovich lived in the village with his wife Maria Fominichna. They were a prosperous merchant family. According to local residents, Vasily Ivanovich was involved in timber trading along the Volga River. He built the church in the village of Markovo for the local people. The building was likely beautiful, with domes and rich decorations, but over time, due to neglect, it fell into disrepair. On the church grounds, one can find a fence with a massive cast-iron monument adorned with inscriptions. By studying them, one can conclude that this is a monument at the grave of the church builder Martin Vasily Ivanovich and his wife, erected by their son.
