Church of John the Theologian in Guzhovo

Фото 1
In the village, a stone Theological church has been preserved, built in 1812. It houses altars dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, John the Theologian, and Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1862, the refectory part of the church was extended, and the bell tower was rebuilt. Before the stone church, there was a wooden temple in the village. The deacon of this church, Ivan Prokhoriev, founded a church in the name of the Holy Prophet Elijah and a monastery in Ryabinovaya Pustyn in 1612, at the confluence of the Black Ushlonka River into the Uhra.

The Theological temple is adorned with rusticated pilasters, classical window frames have been preserved, and the light drum of the square is highlighted by pilasters. However, during the Soviet era, the church suffered greatly: the bell tower was destroyed to the first tier, the iconostasis did not survive, and the vaults of the apse and refectory were destroyed. Since 1930, the church has been inactive and was used as a grain storage facility.
