On the banks of the Volga, in the ancient village of Zdemirovo, near the settlement of Krasnoe-na-Volge, stands the Church of the Prophet Elijah. It was built in 1826 on the site of an older wooden church thanks to the funds of a wealthy Samara merchant, Ivan Emelyanov. The architect was the renowned builder P.I. Fursov, the author of many structures in the center of Kostroma. The church is designed in the style of Russian classicism, popular in the 19th century. According to legend, peace was once made at the site of the church after a battle with the Tatars, which gave the village its name, Here-Peace. Every church has its own history, and the Zdemirovo church is known for the special patronage of the Mother of God. Thanks to the efforts of merchant Emelyanov, the ancient icon of the "Kazan Mother of God" appeared in the church, in honor of which a second altar was arranged and consecrated in the winter part of the church. A legend has been preserved in popular memory about the miraculous salvation from fire of the steamboat on which Ivan Emelyanov arrived in Zdemirovo. The vessel was positioned between two others, and when a fire broke out on one of them, everyone began to pray to the "Diligent Intercessor." The flames arched over Emelyanov's steamboat without causing it any harm.

In the 20th century, when many churches in the area were being destroyed and looted, the church in Zdemirovo remained active, although for a long time it did not have a permanent priest. In 1982, the church faced closure, but the situation was saved by the appointment of priest Alexey Rozin, a graduate of the Moscow Theological Seminary, as rector by Archbishop Kassian. Worship services resumed in the church, and gradual restoration of the building began. In 2002, a list was made from the icon of the "Inexhaustible Cup" to support parents grieving for their drinking sons. Regular prayers began to be held before this icon. During Holy Week in 2002, drops of myrrh appeared on the icon, which reappeared after being wiped away. The myrrh flow continued for three months until the feast in honor of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God. In the following two years, myrrh appeared during the same periods. The first testimonies of the healing power of the icon came from parents whose sons stopped drinking. Soon, the Kostroma public organization "Council of Mothers" learned about the myrrh-streaming icon. Relatives and friends of alcoholics and drug addicts came to the icon seeking comfort and help from the Mother of God. After the liturgy and prayer before the icon, everyone felt a sense of inner peace.
