From 1767 to 1774, architects from Ustyug, Nikita Goryntsev and his son Danila, along with a team of stonemasons, worked in the village of Yuryevo. Here they built the Church of the Prophet Elijah, which harmoniously fits into the surrounding landscape. The tall bell tower is visible from afar and seems to hover over the expanses of the Moloma River, from the banks of which picturesque views open up. The grandeur of the church is emphasized by the cliff that begins almost at its base. The church consists of three parts from different times and belongs to the refectory type, where the church, refectory, and bell tower are located on one axis. Even without knowledge of the later construction of the bell tower and the reconstruction of the refectory, one can easily identify the old part of the building built by these architects.

The cold church has a tiered structure, its decorative embellishments and architectural forms resemble the Nikolsky church in the neighboring village of Istoben. The Yuryev church is single-story, topped with two diminishing light octagons, which became a classic feature of Kirov architecture in the mid-18th century. The squat tiers of the Ilyinsky church create a measured rhythm of decreasing volumes of the drums. Decorative elements, merging into a festive symphony, create a joyful image, far removed from ecclesiastical scholasticism. Above the windows of the upper tier, set in archivolts, are acute-angled "brows" made of shaped bricks, complemented by an element resembling a "broom." Other "brows" with a rosette complete the composition of the altar and the lower tier. The architect interprets elements of classical architecture in his own way, using "Corinthian" capitals made of shaped bricks and volute-like "Ionic" features. This is close to the style of "Naryshkin Baroque" and testifies to the vitality of ancient Russian traditions and their development in the original forms of Kirov folk architecture.

By 1912, the church was referred to as the Ilyinsky church with chapels. There is confusion in archival documents: the church was blessed to be consecrated in honor of the Nativity of Christ, but the main chapel is dedicated to the Prophet Elijah, while another is dedicated to the Great Martyr Panteleimon. No documents have been found explaining the reasons for this. In the 1930s, the church was closed, returned to the faithful in the mid-1940s, and closed again in 1963. In the early 1990s, it reopened and has been active to this day. In the 20th century, the main chapel was consecrated in honor of the prophet Elijah, the left one in honor of the Smolensk icon of the Mother of God, and the right one in honor of the Great Martyr Panteleimon. On June 24, 2017, the chapel in honor of the Smolensk icon of the Mother of God was reconsecrated in honor of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Worthy It Is."
