The village of Novo is located northwest of the Bogolyubovo Monastery, 12 versts from the city of Vladimir. According to tradition, it was formed from several small neighboring settlements united by peasants who previously belonged to the abolished Pokrovsky Monastery, located at the mouth of the Nerl River. Before the liquidation of the monastery's lands, Novo was under the ownership of this monastery and later passed into the jurisdiction of state property.

Already in the early 17th century, there was a church here, as confirmed by records in the patriarchal revenue books, where in 1628 the "church of St. Prophet Elijah in the village of Novo in the estate of the Pokrovsky Monastery, which is at the mouth of the Nerl River" is mentioned. In 1656, the church paid a tribute of 1 ruble, 7 altyns, and 4 dengi. In 1695, a new antimins was issued from the patriarchal office "for the old altar."

In 1700, a new church was built in Novo, consecrated by the abbot of the Pokrovsky Monastery, Nikon. At the end of the 18th century, when the wooden church became dilapidated, the parishioners decided to build a stone church using materials from the Pokrov Church of the abolished monastery. Bishop Viktor of Vladimir allowed the dismantling of this church and its transfer to Novo, but when the peasants began to dismantle it and one of them removed the cross, he suddenly went blind. This event shocked everyone, and the peasants abandoned their intention. As a result, a wooden church was built again in Novo.

In 1831, a stone church was finally built, consecrated in 1843. It still stands with the same bell tower. The church has two altars: in the cold part in the name of St. Prophet Elijah and in the warm refectory in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God. Among the holy icons, the ancient icons of the Mother of God, St. John the Baptist, the holy great martyrs George and Mina, and St. Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow stand out. These icons of Novgorod writing were brought by parishioners from Novgorod. It is said that the peasants found them on the vaults of an ancient temple in Novgorod, and at the request of Archimandrite Photii of the Yuriev Monastery, Countess Orlova paid 150 rubles for them. The coverings on the icons are made of basemny silver.

Church documents have been preserved: copies of metric books since 1802 and confession lists since 1825. The land by the church includes: homestead land of 1590 square fathoms, arable land of 29 desyatinas, and haymaking land of 4 desyatinas and 360 square fathoms. There is no special plan for this land; it is indicated in the plan of the lands of the peasants of the village of Novo.

According to the staff, the clergy consists of a priest and a psalmist. The clergy receives support from services and requirements, bread collection, and land, totaling up to 750 rubles a year. The clergy have their own houses on church land. The parish includes only the village of Novo, where according to clerical records, there are 593 men and 628 women. There is a public school in the parish, opened in 1860 by the local priest; it is currently funded by the zemstvo.
