Church of Elijah the Prophet in Arefino

Фото 1
The Church of Dmitry of Thessalonica is an example of provincial Empire style. Its volumetric-spatial solution consists of three parts and has a traditional character. Two rectangular sections adjoin the main cubic volume: the altar part from the east and the refectory from the west. The entrance to the church is located on the western facade of the refectory and is decorated with a Tuscan portico featuring four columns and a triangular pediment. The main two-colored cube demonstrates elements characteristic of late classicism on the northern and southern facades. Between the three equal rectangular windows of the lower level are pilasters of the Doric order. The central window is adorned with a shelf-like sandrik, while elongated panels are located above the side windows. Above the entablature of the pilasters is a large semicircular window of the upper level, framed by a rusticated arch, with large round niches on either side. The walls of the altar part and the refectory are pierced with high semicircular windows, which are also rusticated.
