Church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' in Voskresensk

The first church in the village was wooden, and its exact description has not survived, but it likely resembled a ship. The foundation was made of stone, and a wooden bell tower was built nearby. The church was consecrated on the day of the Resurrection of Christ and was named Voskresenskaya, which also gave its name to the village, Novo-Voskresenskoye.

The church stood for only sixty-five years until it burned down in a fire in 1814. Only the Icon of the Sign of the Mother of God survived. In 1822, on the site of the burned church, with the blessing of Bishop Justin of Perm and Yekaterinburg, the construction of a stone church in honor of the Sign of the Mother of God began, designed by architect Mikhail Pavlovich Malakhov. This church became a magnificent example of architecture with a refectory and decorated Corinthian porticos. It was consecrated on June 8, 1835, by Bishop Evlampiy. The church was ship-shaped, measuring 17 fathoms in length and 6 fathoms 2 arshins in width, plastered and painted malachite green. In the 19th century, priests such as Nazariy Gornykh, Grigoriy Plotnikov, Rodion Gramolin, Stefan Kirpishchikov, Protopriest Valentin Lentovsky, Grigoriy Vyshgorodskiy, Pavel Gorokhov, Filaret Ponomaryov, and Protopriest Alexey Lyapustin served there.

Protopriest Alexey passed away on May 28, 1904. The cast-iron plate from his grave disappeared in the 20th century, but in 2005 it was returned to the church thanks to a resident of Snezhinsk.

After the death of the last rector in 1948, the bells stopped ringing, and the church utensils were taken away. The building was used as a grain storage facility. In the 1970s, boys found embroidered banners and played with them, while the walls of the church were damaged. Before restoration, the building was in a deplorable state, lacking floors, windows, and frames, with birch trees growing out of the brick walls.

In early 1990, a group called 'Revival' was created in Snezhinsk under the leadership of V.A. Batin to restore the church. Several volunteer days were held, and in April 1990, the building was handed over to the Orthodox parish. On March 27, 1997, Archbishop Ioann blessed the start of restoration work. The new parish council was headed by Alexander Alexandrovich Ermakov. Parishioners, carpenters, and joiners worked for free.

In 1998, Archbishop Ioann consecrated the church. Restoration progressed rapidly, and on January 28, 1999, the church was recognized as a monument of architecture. In the spring of 2001, with the support of the city administration, six bells named 'Blagovest' were installed in the church. In 2002, the administration gifted an icon of the Mother of God 'Derzhavnaya,' painted by nuns from the Novo-Tikhvin Monastery. Invited artists painted the ceilings and walls of the church, and Igor Mikhailovich Filippov restored the ancient icons. The church came to life: frescoes, an iconostasis, choirs, heating, and a baptismal room appeared.
