In 1859, a stone single-altar Sign Church was laid with funds from factory owners Stenbok-Fermor. It was consecrated in honor of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos 'Sign' on November 22, 1876. During the Soviet era, the church remained open. The church houses a relic of the Orthodox Church, the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos 'Sign-Verkhny Tagil', known for its healings.

According to tradition, the miraculous icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' has been in the Sign Church of Verkhny Tagil since its opening in 1753, when the church was still wooden. This image is highly revered among Orthodox believers in the Middle Urals. The icon is placed at the left choir on an analog under glass and is adorned with precious gifts from grateful believers who received healing through prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos.

The iconography of the Mother of God depicts her with raised hands in prayer, and on her chest, in a medallion, is the Christ Child, blessing with his right hand and holding a scroll in his left. To the right of the Mother of God’s face is a cherub, and to the left, a seraph. Until 1922, the icon was adorned with a silver-gilded robe with precious stones, which later disappeared.

The holy image, which appeared in 1709, belonged to a local resident, Savva Medvedev, until 1753, after which it was transferred to the new Verkhny Tagil Sign Church. This church burned down on May 18, 1861, but the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos remained unharmed and was moved to the new stone church in 1876, where it remains today. The special veneration of the icon is confirmed by processions that gathered many believers and took place throughout the summer. These processions with the miraculous icon continued until the late 1920s, when they ceased with the advent of Soviet power.

Many copies have been made of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God 'Sign-Verkhny Tagil'. The most revered are the Byn'govsky copy, located in the Nikolskaya Church of the village of Byn'gi in the Nizhny Tagil district, and the Nevyansk copy, which was previously in the Transfiguration Cathedral and is now in the Ascension Church of Nevyansk.

In the altar of the Verkhny Tagil Sign Church, there is a manuscript from the early 20th century with a record of the oral tradition about the appearance and miracles of the Verkhny Tagil miraculous icon of the Mother of God 'Sign'. A copy of this manuscript is held in the Verkhny Tagil Local History Museum.
