The wooden church in honor of the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos 'Sign' was built in the village of Lyakhovka in 1703 with funds from the landowner Z.P. Evlashev. This temple was considered one of the oldest in the Simbirsk province. For 125 years, the Sign Church welcomed parishioners, strengthening their faith and helping them overcome life's trials. The famous Ulyanovsk artist D.I. Arkhangelsky captured this church in his drawings, which have survived to this day. Church architecture expert A. Yakhontov noted that this temple is a 'precious church monument of the Petrine era' and serves as the only example of wooden churches from the early 18th century. He detailed the Lyakhov church and noted that the descendants from Lyakhovka founded the village of Novospasskoye, now located in the Novospassky district, as indicated in the works of V.K. Kuzmin. However, wood, being a perishable material, caused the once beautiful building to age over time.
