The village of Krasnoe is located two kilometers from Yuriev-Polsky and has an ancient history. In the second half of the 14th century, it belonged to the Grand Duke of Moscow, Dmitry Ivanovich Donskoy. In 1389, he bequeathed Krasnoe to his eldest son, Vasily Dmitrievich, noting: "From the Yuriev villages, I give my son Vasily my purchased village of Krasnoe." In 1391, two years after his father's death, Grand Duke Vasily Dmitrievich married Sofia Vitovtovna, the daughter of the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Vitovt. In the spiritual charter of Dmitry Donskoy, Krasnoe is mentioned as a village, indicating the existence of a church as early as the 14th century.
Vasily Dmitrievich, in his spiritual charter of 1423, sealed with the signature of Metropolitan Photiy, bequeathed Krasnoe to his wife. After her death, the village passed to their eldest son, Grand Duke Vasily Vasilyevich the Dark. In 1433, he married Maria, the daughter of the appanage prince of Maloyaroslavets, Yaroslav Vladimirovich. They had sons Yuri the Elder, Andrey the Great Goryai, Semyon, Boris, Andrey the Younger, and a daughter Anna. In 1462, Vasily Vasilyevich, in a spiritual charter signed by Metropolitan Theodosius of Moscow, bequeathed the village to his wife Maria Yaroslavovna. After her death, Krasnoe became the property of their younger son, appanage prince of Volokolamsk Boris Vasilyevich. In 1477, while preparing for a campaign against the Novgorodians on the orders of his brother, Grand Duke Ivan III, Boris Vasilyevich composed a spiritual charter, bequeathing Krasnoe to his wife Ulyana Mikhailovna, the daughter of the appanage prince of Kholm, Mikhail Dmitrievich, whom he married in 1471. They had sons Fyodor, appanage prince of Volok, Ivan, appanage prince of Ruza, and a daughter Anna; the names of the other daughters are unknown.
In 1645, thanks to the efforts of Deacon Grigory Nechaev and the parishioners, a stone church was built in Krasnoe, consecrated in honor of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos. The church had two chapels: of Saints Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, and of Saint Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica. The owner of the village donated various church items to the church, including icons, candles, books, vestments, and bells. At that time, the church was served by priest Efim Andreev, Bonifaty Mikulin, deacon Druzhina Mikhailov, deacon Fedka Alexeev, sacristan Fedotko Fyodorov, and sacristan Naumko Alexandrov.
Since 1681, the clergy consisted of a priest and a deacon. The stone church of 1645 stood until 1810, when, with the funds of the parishioners, the current stone church of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos was built, with chapels of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptizer of the Lord John, and of Saint Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, along with a stone bell tower.
