Church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' in Cherkasskoye

The church in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' in Cherkasskoye was opened in 1827 thanks to the efforts of Count S.S. Uvarov. The stone building, construction of which began in 1814, had a bell tower and two chapels, consecrated in honor of Saints Cosmas and Damian and the Ascension of the Lord. The clergy included two priests, a deacon, and two psalmists. The parish had over 4000 Orthodox residents from Cherkasskoye and the village of Kamyshovka, where there was a chapel.

In the early 1930s, the church was closed, and plans were made for its destruction, but the strong walls withstood, preserving one of the bright architectural monuments of the 19th century. In 1993, the partially destroyed building was handed over to the community of believers in the settlement. On December 10, 1993, the church was consecrated by the archpriest of the central district of the Saratov diocese. In the summer of 1997, restoration work began: the roof, domes, and bell tower were restored, heating was installed, a marble altar was set up, and a temporary iconostasis was established. The parish is associated with a chapel in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Koloyar.
