The altar of the Sokolskiy church is dedicated to the miraculous image of the Mother of God 'Joy of All Who Sorrow'. The church was built in 1812 on the left bank of the Volga. Its gilded domes with crosses, reaching towards the sky, are visible from afar. The place where the church stands was previously called Ustye, as the river Unzha flowed into the Volga here. There were no buildings around the tall white church.

On June 20, 1939, the church was closed as a place of worship. On July 11, it was handed over to the Sokolskiy District Consumer Society for the organization of a bakery and confectionery production. Currently, the church has been fully restored. The residents of Sokolskiy, especially those living closer to the Volga, often hear the ringing of the bells. The church bells, announcing the beginning of the service, sound beautiful and melodic, although they are not large. There are five bells installed in the bell tower, which are referred to as the 'glory bell'.
