The church was consecrated in 1896 and then re-consecrated in 2005 with a Great Rite.

The particular hospital, along with the church, was founded in the late 18th century by order of public charity. Initially, all buildings were wooden, but in the 1920s they were replaced with stone.

On July 8, 1844, the hospital chapel was consecrated on the second floor of the main building. However, by the end of the 19th century, it had fallen into disrepair, and cracks appeared in its vaults. Doctors and the zemstvo appealed to the authorities for the construction of a new church. It was decided that according to the adopted barrack system of hospital construction, the church should be a separate building with access for parishioners from the street.

In 1890, the widow A. Y. Gorbunov donated 4,000 rubles for the construction of the hospital church in memory of her husband, which became the basis for the project's realization. The design of the two-story church at the corner of Zhukovskaya Minina and Hospital streets was developed by provincial engineer V. N. Bryukhatov. The church featured an unusual architectural solution with a three-domed completion of the prayer hall and bell tower. Under the central tower of the bell tower, five bells were hung in an arched opening. The facades of the church were stylized to resemble ancient Russian architecture, using barrels, cornices, false machicolations, and keel-shaped window frames.

The laying of the church took place on August 22, 1894, by Bishop Vladimir of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. A commemorative copper plaque about the construction of the church according to the plans of architect V. N. Bryukhatov was placed at the foundation of the altar.

The brickwork was completed in 1895, and the following year the church was consecrated for the opening of the All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod.

On September 24, 2005, Bishop Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas performed the rite of Great Consecration of the church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "All Who Sorrow."

Thanks to the efforts of parishioners and benefactors, in recent years the church building has been improved, a fence has been erected around the church territory, and a rectory has been built.
