The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Joy of All Who Sorrow' is located in the working settlement of Karsun in the Ulyanovsk region. The settlement itself is situated on the banks of the Barysh River, 100 kilometers from Ulyanovsk. Karsun is about 400 years old, with its founding dating back to 1647. The origin of the settlement's name is unclear: according to one version, it translates from Turkic as 'pine water, snowy water.' Initially, Karsun was a border point, and only after several decades did it begin to develop: schools, a library, medical facilities, and enterprises appeared. The decision to build the church was made in the late 1990s, but due to financial difficulties and bureaucracy, construction was only completed in 2010. The church is built of red brick, with a stone structure. Above the building rises a bell tower with a dome-shaped cupola and a cross, and another similar cupola adorns the main volume of the temple.
