The question of opening the Porez parish and building a church first arose in 1842, according to documents from the Vyatka Consistory. However, this was hindered by the clergy of neighboring parishes, and the residents of Porez initially showed no interest. Only in 1846 were all issues resolved, and a wooden church in honor of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste was built. The Porez parish covered 12 versts and included 46 villages. In 1859, the construction of a stone church began, which lasted almost 30 years.

The first chapels of the new temple were consecrated in the early 1860s in honor of Archangel Michael and in memory of the Forty Martyrs. The church was called the Archangel Church. The main altar of the cold church was consecrated on July 22, 1878, in honor of the Athos Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos 'Worthy Is', after which the church began to be called the Mother of God Church. The right altar of the cold temple was consecrated on June 12, 1887, in the name of Saint Simeon of Verkhoturye. Thanks to the church, the village began to grow rapidly, and zemstvo and craft schools were opened there.

According to the memories of an old resident of the village of Porez, P.G. Theofilaktov, the stone church was 60 meters long, 30 meters wide, and the height of the bell tower was 75 meters. The villagers built the temple for free, only hiring stonemasons. The bell tower had 24 bells weighing from one pood to 10 pounds, three bells weighed from 10 to 40 poods, and the main bell weighed 408 poods, its sound was heard from 25 versts away.

In 1885, a church school was opened in the village, and on December 30, 1898, public readings of a religious-moral and historical-patriotic nature began to be held at the school.

The church has a longitudinal-axial combination of volumes and consists of a five-domed central temple, a refectory, and a transition with a bell tower. The temple is two-light with large light drums and onion-shaped domes. The bell tower is five-tiered, the lower floors, the quadrilaterals, and the finishing octagon are topped with an onion dome. The facade decor is done in the Russian style from brick, and the columns in the temple have a complex configuration.

In 1934, the church was closed and used as a grain storage facility, and later as a cultural center and gym for the school. In August 1997, the Mother of God Church in the village of Porez reopened for parishioners, and services resumed. The Mother of God Church is included in the list of monuments of urban planning and architecture of the Kirov region, which are under state protection.
