Next to the road, at the foot of a hill, between the villages of Pet'yala and Az'yala, a white-blue wooden church dedicated to St. Guriy, the Kazan miracle worker, rises in the shade of trees. It harmoniously fits into the surrounding landscape. This place is beautiful, crowned by God's temple. Its history is no less beautiful. The Kazan Archbishop Vladimir, returning from Tsarevokokshaysk, was so impressed by these places that he decided to build a church here. However, busy with affairs, he soon forgot about this idea. Time passed, and when Father John of Kronstadt, now revered as a miracle worker, stopped in Kazan, his meeting inspired Archbishop Vladimir to realize his long-held dream. The blessing of Father John accelerated the process, and in 1896 the church was built. According to an inscription preserved in the church, the construction was led by Archpriest Mikhail Talantov, whose grave is located in the churchyard. Architecturally, the Holy Guriy Church belongs to the typical 'kletsk' churches, based on a log cabin, a square base, which is topped with an octagonal drum and a dome. There are two smaller drums with a cupola, which gives the entire structure lightness and elegance. To the east, the altar apse adjoins the cube, and to the west, the refectory. Above the entrance rises a three-tiered bell tower, designed in the same style as the church. Clad in timber and painted white, with blue blades and friezes, the Holy Guriy Church beautifully complements the surrounding birches.

The interior of the church was decorated in the 1900s-1910s. In 1913, with the funds of parishioners, an iconostasis was erected. The church was well supplied with church utensils, and the church library had 67 volumes and was regularly replenished. A church parish school operated, where in 1916, 26 boys and 14 girls were educated.

The blessing of the righteous St. John of Kronstadt protected the church from destruction during difficult times. The Holy Guriy Church was closed for only 10 years, from 1936 to 1946, but it was not subjected to plundering. Icons were brought to it from all around. Today, the church houses one of the ancient miraculous copies of the Smolensk Seven Lakes Icon of the Mother of God, brought from the Kazan Mother of God Seven Lakes Monastery, located 35 km from Pet'yala. After the closure of the monastery in the 1920s, believers, striving to preserve the shrine, brought the icon to the Holy Guriy Church. Since then, the miraculous image of the Queen of Heaven has been in Pet'yala. When the icon was brought into the church and a moleben was served, a holy spring gushed from the hillside, which became a sign from the Mother of God. Since then, the flow of people to the spring of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God has not ceased. The icon's cover is adorned with beads, and the faces have darkened with time. People strive to touch the miraculous image. Since 2000, processions with the icon have resumed. Pilgrims from Yoshkar-Ola, Volzhsk, Zvenigovo, Zelenodolsk, and other cities of Russia come to the Pet'yala church. The spring located below the church, the spring of St. Seraphim of Sarov, also possesses healing power, and its holy water has healed many.

For a long time, the Holy Guriy Church was served by Priest Vladimir Allin, an extraordinary man whose sermons healed souls, and whose prayers helped people recover. His body rests in the churchyard; he passed away in 1998.
