The St. George Church in the city of Skopino was founded in 1816. Before the 1917 revolution, a parish school operated at the church.

From 1930 until its closure in 1937, the rector of the church was the holy martyr Vasily Tsvetkov.

After its closure in 1937, the church building was used as a fuel storage facility. From 1961 to 1970, it housed a local history museum, and then until 1980, a weighing workshop.

After the workshop closed, the building remained abandoned until 1992.

The ruined and desecrated church stood as a silent reproach to the townspeople, prompting active residents to unite and begin its restoration in 1992.

On November 16, 1994, Archbishop Simon Novikov of Ryazan and Kasimov performed the great consecration of the church.

Thanks to the efforts of Archpriest Ioann Zvonov, the St. George Church regained its former glory. The gilded iconostasis, frescoes, and beautiful decor delight all visitors.

The church also houses an image of the holy martyr Vasily Keletsky, gifted by the saint's relatives.

The rector of the church is actively involved in social service and cares for a nursing home in the city of Skopino.
