Church of St. George the Victorious in Obnorskoye

Фото 1
The church was built in 1825 shortly after the miraculous discovery of the Feodorovskaya icon of the Mother of God in the village. In honor of this icon, the right altar of the church was consecrated. The story of its discovery is as follows: a sick girl dreamed that the icon was in the barn of a local landowner. The found icon was ceremoniously transferred to the church of the neighboring village of Pavlovka, and later returned to Obnorskoye and placed in the new church in a richly decorated kiot. The locals reverently honored the shrine for about a hundred years, but in 1934 it was stolen, and its whereabouts remain unknown to this day.

In 1933-1934, the priest Adrian Milkov served as the rector of the church, who compiled a valuable description of the shrines and landmarks of the Obnorskoye land. From 1935 to 1937, the rector was the holy martyr Peter Tokarev.

The building has now been returned to the Church and serves as a dependency of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Gennadiev Monastery.
