The church, dedicated to St. George the Victorious, was built thanks to the blessing of Archbishop George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, as well as the efforts of the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Lieutenant General of Police V. I. Kanygin. The construction of the church was funded by the academy's faculty and students.

On May 5, 2007, Archbishop George conducted the consecration of the church, and on October 11, 2009, the bell tower was consecrated and bells were installed on the academy's grounds. A Sunday school is located on the first floor of the two-story bell tower.

The selection of bells and equipment for the bell tower was carried out with the assistance of the Nizhny Novgorod School of Bell Art. Five bells were produced at the factory of Nikolai Shuvalov in Tutayev, Yaroslavl region, the largest of which weighs 80 kg.

The church has become a center of spiritual revival for the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies of Nizhny Novgorod. Officers perform duties in the church, and students have formed a church choir. The majority of the congregation consists of police officers, emergency services employees, representatives of the Cossacks, and the Armed Forces.

During services, the church is open to all who wish to attend.
