The Church of St. George the Victorious is located in the northern part of Yaroslav's Courtyard in Veliky Novgorod, at the intersection of Bolshaya Moskovskaya and Ilinskaya streets. Nearby is the Church of John on the Opokas.

This is a pillarless, single-apsidal building of the "octagon on a square" type with a sub-church, topped with a small dome. The facades are decorated with pilasters and buttresses, finished with cornices. The windows have pointed and semi-circular finishes, most of them framed with rich moldings.

The first mention of the wooden Church of George dates back to 1356. It was later replaced by a stone structure built by the residents of Lubyanytsya, a street that ran through the city market, Torg. The church has burned down and been restored multiple times. In 1615, it had two chapels, on the southern and northern sides. In 1747, the upper vaults collapsed, but in 1750 and 1754, the church was restored.

After the revolution, the Church of George on Torg, along with the Church of Elijah on Slavna, remained operational in Novgorod longer than others.

During the Great Patriotic War, the church suffered minor damage. Restoration work began in 1952, during which all extensions and the well-preserved bell tower were dismantled. Archaeological studies in 1973 and 1976 revealed remnants of early wooden extensions. Photographs from 1944 show that the vaults of the church were intact, but the drum and dome were missing, likely destroyed before the war.

In the late Soviet period, a souvenir shop was located in the church. It now houses an exhibition of historical Novgorod photography.
