On the eastern outskirts of the Russian plain, in the center of the Volga shale basin, the Kashpir deposit of combustible shale has been located for several centuries. The peculiarity of this deposit is that the layers of combustible stone near the village of Kashpir come right to the banks of the Volga. In August 1919, the development and construction of a mine began. A barrack was built at the mine, which served as both an office and a dormitory for workers. This laid the foundation for the emergence of the miners' working settlement of Novokashpirsky. During the Soviet era, there could be no talk of building a church, but after the celebration of the millennium of the Baptism of Rus, ancient churches began to be reopened and new ones constructed.
With the blessing of Archbishop Eusebius of Samara and Syzran and the decision of the Parish Assembly, on September 1, 1991, an Orthodox parish was established in the village of Novokashpirsky in the city of Syzran in the name of the icon of the Mother of God "Theodorovskaya." This choice was due to the miraculous discovery of a copy of the icon of the Mother of God "Theodorovskaya" near the village of Kashpir in 1713, known for its miracles.
The parish was allocated a plot of land of 1.5 hectares, where barracks once stood. On the cleared territory, a railway carriage was first installed, which became a temporary church. The first rector of the parish was Priest Anatoly Ivanov. A log church was laid in the best traditions of Russian wooden architecture, and its construction was completed in the early 21st century. The church, with an area of 388 sq. m, is a cross-shaped log church with five domes, a refectory, and a three-tiered bell tower with bells from Kamensk-Uralsky.
The main shrine of the church is the image of the Mother of God "Theodorovskaya," gifted by Abbess Innocentia from the Bogoyavlensky-Anastasiin Monastery in Kostroma. Among other relics are the relics of Prince Peter of Murom and St. Anthony of Radonezh. The church's decor includes many ancient icons, including the image of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called, created in the Syzran icon painting technique. The church has a Baptismal hall, a sacristy, a library of Orthodox literature, and a candle shop. Services are held on Saturdays, Sundays, and on holidays.
On the parish grounds, in addition to the wooden church, a two-story brick house has been built with a rectory, a classroom for the children's Sunday school, and a refectory. The territory is actively being landscaped: fruit and coniferous trees have been planted, chestnut and rowan alleys have been created, decorative shrubs have been planted, and flowerbeds with perennial and annual flowers have been arranged.
