The temple of St. Catherine the Great Martyr was built in 1854 thanks to the funding of titular advisor Viktor Ivanovich Zvenigorodsky in memory of his wife, Ekaterina Vasilievna Nikiforova, who died of tuberculosis. The church was designed by the famous architect Konstantin Ton, the author of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow. Plaster sculptures of the apostles were installed on all four sides of the church, originally twelve in total. Now only one statue remains, but it is gradually deteriorating. Next to the church, a bell tower 43 meters high was built. The bricks for the construction of the church and bell tower were produced in a neighboring village, and, according to legend, they were passed hand to hand in a living chain three kilometers long.

In 1928, the church was closed, its interior was looted, and the cross and domes were demolished. The church building was turned into a grain storage facility, and the bell tower was used to store insecticide. Despite this, many frescoes inside the church have survived to this day. The church is now gradually being restored and is recognized as a monument of history and architecture of the 19th century.

In 2006, LLC NPP 'RONA' developed a restoration project for the church and bell tower. Special attention was required for the bell tower, and in 2015, LLC 'DESIGN' began work on restoring the ceilings, kokoshniks, and restoring the brickwork of the facades.

In 2017, LLC 'Ravelin' carried out work on the construction of rafter structures and the framework of the dome, covering the roof with galvanized steel under 'scales', as well as recreating and installing a cross with decorative elements, a cross sphere, and a pillar. The white stone elements on the facades, cornices, bases of the Ionic and Corinthian orders, the covering of the kokoshniks, and the brickwork of the facades were restored.

In 2018, LLC 'Ravelin' continued restoration work, recreating and restoring stairs, ceilings, door panels of hatches, and the railing of the bell tower, as well as partially the facades.

In 2019, as part of the state program 'Development of Culture and Tourism', LLC 'Ravelin' completed the restoration of the bell tower. Internal restoration work was carried out on the vaults, ceilings, floors, beams, windows, doors, and stairs. The restoration of the white stone elements, the plinth, and fragments of the facade was completed.

The repair and restoration work on the bell tower is fully completed.
