The old stone church with a bell tower in Bolshaya Yekaterinovka, built in 1822 by the efforts of parishioners, is one of the most famous in the region. Initially, the church was warm and by the end of the 1870s had been expanded to three altars. The main altar is dedicated to St. George the Victorious, the right chapel to St. Catherine of Alexandria, consecrated on December 21, 1878, and the left chapel to the Protection of the Holy Virgin, consecrated on July 1, 1879.

Fifteen nearby villages were associated with the church in Bolshaya Yekaterinovka.

In January 1934, the church was closed by the Soviet authorities.

In 2011, at the initiative of local residents, an Orthodox parish was reestablished in Bolshaya Yekaterinovka. A room in the village administration building was temporarily equipped for worship services. The two-century-old St. George's Church, which partially retains its wall paintings, remains abandoned as there are currently no funds for its restoration.
