Church of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in Syreika

Фото 1
In 1781, a church dedicated to St. Demetrius of Thessalonica was built in Syreika. Throughout its history, it has been subjected to fires three times and was restored each time. In 1930, the church was closed, and the building gradually fell into disrepair.

In the 1950s, the church in Syreika was completely destroyed, leaving only a part of the altar's foundation.

On November 8, 2004, an akathist was held in the village club in honor of St. Demetrius the Great Martyr. At this gathering, the villagers decided to restore the church and create an Orthodox community. Six months later, a parish in honor of St. Demetrius the Great Martyr was officially registered in Syreika.

In July 2005, a decommissioned passenger car body was brought to Syreika, where services were held until the new church opened in 2009.
