Church of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in Sidorovka

Фото 1
The church in honor of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in the village of Sidorovka is the newest in the Sergievsky district. Its construction began in 2013 with the blessing of Bishop Nikifor of Otradnensky and Pokhvistnevsky on the site where the first church was built in 1864. That 19th-century structure was wooden, cold, and could accommodate about 500 worshippers. In 1940, the collective farmers decided to close the church and transfer its building to a school for expansion. The old church did not survive, so the villagers decided to restore the temple.

The main initiator of the construction was the head of the Sergievsky district, Alexey Veselov, a native of Sidorovka. Thanks to the financial support of patrons and donations from future parishioners, the church was built in just over a year. On November 8, 2014, on the Day of Remembrance of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica, Bishop Nikifor of Otradnensky and Pokhvistnevsky conducted the consecration ceremony of the church.
