The village of Shustovo, located on the Tara River, is 32 versts from the district town of Vyazniki and 100 versts from Vladimir. Until 1764, it belonged to the Trinity-Sergius Monastery and was considered a settlement of the village of Novoe-Tatarovo. According to the scribal books of Suzdal district from 1628-1630, there was a wooden church of Dmitry of Thessalonica in this settlement, with an altar in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, built by the monastery. The church had a priest, a deacon, a sexton, and a prosphora baker, as well as five households of church laborers. No further information about the fate of this church has been preserved.

From 1798 to 1809, a stone temple was built in Shustovo to replace the old wooden church. It has two altars: the main one in honor of Saint Great Martyr Dmitry of Thessalonica and a warm altar in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church is well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books.

According to the regulations, the parish is to have a priest and a psalmist. Their maintenance is ensured by income from land, grain collections, interest capital, as well as from services and sacramental rites, amounting to up to 350 rubles per year. The houses of the clergy members are located on church land and are their property. The parish includes the village of Shustovo and 13 villages located within 7 versts from the church. According to the clerical records, there are 300 men and 339 women in these villages. Since 1894, a zemstvo public school has been operating in the village of Shustovo.
