The stone church with one dome, connected to the bell tower and dedicated to Saints Dmitry of Rostov and Nicholas, was built in 1806 thanks to the efforts of parishioner M. A. Shakhovskaya. Before this, there was a wooden church on this site, but no exact records of its destruction have survived. According to local elders, it was destroyed during the construction of the new stone church.

Three processions are held in the parish of this church, and it owns 26 desyatins of land. The parish includes two villages. In 1877, a rural zemstvo school was opened in the village of Puzhbol.

According to the Khlobnikov Chronicle, the village was named after Prince Vadim Puzhbol, known as the Fearless, who lived here in ancient times. In some documents, the village was referred to as 'Pugiboly' and was owned by various Rostov princes of the Puzhbol family.
