The stone church in honor of the holy great martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica was built in Mordovo in 1844 thanks to the efforts of General Obolyaninov. The priest, deacon, and two psalmists lived in public houses near the church. In 1895, stoves were installed in the church. In the 1920s, after the execution of the church's rector and the local zemstvo school teacher, Father Olympius Diakonov, services ceased and were only briefly resumed during the Great Patriotic War. To this day, the church building has remained in a damaged state: the interior decoration and painting have been almost completely destroyed, and the bell tower is in ruins. In the church, which has been returned to the diocese, prayers are held every two weeks, but restoration is not currently planned.
